ESEROMA HOMESTAY REVIEWS
Gathered from the Internet.
I don't know how this place got all the good reviews on airBNB, it is a bit of a hole. There was no electricity, the toilet was outside in some one else's house and there was NO SHOWER! The area was dirty with clothes, rubbish and bits of furniture spread around the ground. Eseroma and Naomi seems nice at first but then they were hardly around. The food was pretty bland. It wasn't like we had been lead to believe. They packed the meals out with white rice. Hygiene is questionable as well. They don't wash their hands before preparing meals or after going to the toilet. We used hand sanitiser but still ended up getting gastro.
The room had ants in it, and during the night we could hear something crawling around. My friend swore she had a rat crawl over her during the night. The beds were okay though. The house is old and in need of repairs. One of the doors is missing and replaced by a corrugated iron sheet. There was mold on some of the walls, and the bed sheets smelled of mold too.
Fiji time was really a problem here. Eseroma and Naomi were really unresponsive to our questions after the introduction. Eseroma wandered off and we didn't see him much at all. Naomi mentioned he had to go to the mainland. Then she wasn't to be found.
We ended up cutting our stay short.
1 out of 5 stars. I would not recommend.

Well my bad review of this place got deleted from airBNB The review system is a sham and Airbnb is all about protecting hosts first. It’s literally their internal strategy and policy.
This place was terrible. Some of the pictures on Airbnb are clearly either fake or somewhere else. The house we stayed in wasn't the one with the hammock or sleeping loft like others had told us they had stayed in. I was told by the villagers that was torn down by the owner because Eseroma and Naomi had been using it without permission.
Their kids were annoying. At first they were okay but kept on coming into our room without permission and taking our stuff without permission. Okay I get it is their house when the guests are away, but they took a phone and were trying to play with it and dropped it in the sand. Then when we had left, we found several hundred dollars had gone missing. We tried keep the room locked when we were not there, but the door does not lock properly. The house was pretty run down, not what we had been lead to believe. There was a lot of rubbish around. The toilet is outside, and the shower was not working.
They had some of the villagers come try sell us trinkets and souvenirs, but we were not interested so they got angry with us and quite pushy. That wasn't appreciated.
I felt the meals were not worth what we paid. They were pretty average and we'd gotten better from other homestays we stayed at.
Of the 5 homestays I stayed in in the Yasawa Islands this one was the worst. I had a look at the other homestays in Gunu village and they were all better.

The beach and general area is beautiful and the house right on the beach. Unfortunately through no fault of their own we were very unwell majority of our stay here. And with the basic facilities and lack of amenities around this was less than ideal. The shower wasn't running so had to pour water over ourselves. The family were very friendly but often in the other house as they had visiting family for Christmas. We asked about doing the free activities but unfortunately never got to do them. We loved the snorkeling around the WW2 plane and would highly recommend. We also had issues getting our sea bus due to a village boat coming back late but they took us to the next island no problem. Food was plentiful, mixture of things, lots of traditional food which we learnt was not to our liking, also could be served at any time (Fiji time). The only issue was we didn't eat anything for at least a day each due to illness but still had to pay the money for food those days which we didn't really agree with.

+ Location. It's a little paradise there
+ Amazing and huge amounts of food
+ Activities. The Manta Ray swimming was off the hook and the traditionally ground oven cooked lunch trip very cool.
+ Very friendly villagers
+ Perfectly organized pick up and drop off (quite a rough transfer in the little village boat)
- For me too much Fiji time. I probably should have booked one day less. It's probably nice for people searching quiteness, but I was more after experiencing the culture
- I was not part of the family. They sometimes came over for a little chat or doing the activities, but I was left alone for most of the time. Food was always served separately to their times.
- It was not the cultural experience that I've expected. People were hanging on their phones and everything was very close to the western way of living
- The bonfire. We had exactly one try. They've lighted it and went away for dinner. They came back when it was already dead. My room was also very smokey, even with all the windows closed Maybe I went there with the wrong expectations, especially because of all these excited previous reviews. Obviously the real traditional way of living is a long time ago. I've also expected to be part of the village and to take part in the daily living/tasks. Maybe I had too many workaways like that and mistaken it with AirBnB or I should have asked more for taking part. Don't get me wrong, I've liked it there, but expected it a little bit differently. I recommend the Homestay, just don't book it too long. Grab your desired activities and maybe one additional day and you should have a good time. Ask for taking part. I'd also recommend to catch the Yasawa Flyer, if you can effort the additional money. It's the next day now and I'm still with pain after the rough boat transfer. I've also spend the night on toilet and I'm still suffering from stomach problems.

This place was very dirty There was mold everywhere. The bathroom in another house had bare moldy concrete walls and had moss growing on it. The shower did not work. The top of the toilet was missing, the sink leaked on to the floor. When I raised the issue of moldy clothing the lady said that they were by the sea and they could not keep things dry. I live by the sea in a tropical place myself in Queensland Australia and have no problems keeping things dry. She angrily said she was sorry the place was not up to my high standards. All I wanted was bedding clear of mold There was also sand and dirt on the floors and it was obvious they had not been swept before we got there. The last straw was a cockroach on my bed when I went to go to sleep. I canceled the next 2 days of the booking and left Gunu village to go stay at Nabua Lodge further up the Yasawa Islands.
I didn't enjoy my stay here. Apart from the filth the hosts were rude, though they were not the people in the photo. It was the place though because the dinning area and tin shack were the same.

The place did not match the pictures at all. I was lead to believe. I'd be staying in a small blue beach shack with verandah. That was next door. We were put in a yellow beach shack instead that didn't have quite the charm. I saw a cupboard in the pictures and thought I would have a place to put my stuff but it was missing and I was expected to put my things on the floor. I ended up getting bed bugs from this place.
Eseroma and Naomi were away because Naomi was pregnant. The other staff were nice, but we were left to our own devices a lot of the time. The food was nothing special and I felt it was not good value for money. The place was not very clean. I found food crumbs in the bed. It was clear that it hadn't been cleaned since the previous guest. When I mentioned that the host looked at me, clearly displeased and then pulled out a broom and swept the floor but did nothing with the beds.
There was no hot water, the toilet was outside with no light and no shower. We were expected to wash using a bucket of cold water, in the toilet. Other guests were in their other house so we then had to share their bathroom. The food wasn't very good.
